What to serve at your child’s party? Several years ago I opted for an easy option: fish fingers, peas and chips. This was for a group of 10 five-year-olds. Sounds simple. No it wasn’t. I spent 45 minutes of the party in the kitchen cooking and preparing food – since this type of meal has to be served within reasonable time of leaving the oven. I juggled party plates around the kitchen and felt like an overworked, underpaid and unloved dinner lady. Never again. Plus, fish fingers? C’mon. That’s a dull Friday night I-too-tired-to-function meal. Plus, it’s a party. Which kid goes to a party to eat fish fingers and chips? Peas, forget it.
I’ve tinkered around on old faithful Pinterest to bring you what I truly believe is an easy, healthy and fun mix of party foods. They do not – let me repeat – DO NOT require hanging around an oven (well perhaps for five minutes), but they can be prepared in advance. Nowhere in these meals is there even a hint of a pea, let alone a fish finger :-).
Let’s get started; hope you find some inspiration – and if you do, please let me know! If you have ideas or photos or links to awesome party food recipes then please link to them here. Thanks for reading, folks.
